Leonel Bento and Fátima Vida, athletes from the Cycling Section of the 20 Kms de Almeirim Association, became national champions at the National Urban Downhill Championship, held on 8 August in Castelo Branco. The event took place at night, on an urban course of about one kilometre in length that linked the Castle to the City's Civic Centre, bringing together some of the country's best specialists in the discipline.
Leonel Bento claimed the national title in the Master 55 category, prevailing through his experience and quality, while Fátima Vida won the Masters Women's category. Fátima Vida achieved a remarkable comeback by overturning the qualifying round classification, overcoming Alexandra Loureiro in the decisive descent and securing the national title.
With these victories, the 20 Kms de Almeirim Association adds another national achievement to its sporting history. In the elite competition, the national titles were won by Filipe Silva, from Bike House DH.
