EU General Court confirms prohibition of Booking's acquisition of eTraveli

The General Court of the European Union today confirmed the European Commission's decision to prohibit the acquisition of the eTraveli group by the accommodation booking website Booking. The court thus rejected the appeal filed by Booking against the previous decision.

The operation was blocked due to competition concerns. The European Commission considered that the purchase could strengthen Booking's dominant position in the online accommodation booking market in the EU, limiting competition.

eTraveli is a Finnish company specializing in travel bookings, including flights and accommodation. Booking, based in the United States, is one of the largest hotel and accommodation booking platforms in the world.

With this decision, the possibility of completing this acquisition, which had been previously announced by both companies, is definitively closed.
