The investigation conducted by the Gamers Nexus channel, in collaboration with the Level1Techs team and independent analysts, revealed that LG's smart televisions possess characteristics that turn them into clandestine listening devices. The analysis focused on the South Korean brand's OLED models and used various interception methodologies to detect the devices' behavior.
The researchers discovered that LG's Smart TVs map phones and other nearby devices, even when they are not being actively used. Additionally, the televisions capture audio through the microphone even with the screen off, functioning as permanent surveillance devices in users' homes.
The collected audio files are subsequently sent to the company's servers, raising serious questions about consumer privacy. The full details of this investigation were published on the Gamers Nexus YouTube channel, with the information having been reported by the Europa Press agency on Tuesday.
