Nearly three in every five people between the ages of 16 and 74 showed basic or above basic digital skills in 2025, according to a report from the National Statistics Institute. This data represents a significant advance in the technological abilities of the Portuguese population, reflecting the growing importance of digitalization in daily life.
However, the study reveals that marked differences persist between age groups. Young people, especially those in the 16 to 24 age range, are much more proficient in digital skills than elderly people, where the digital literacy rate is considerably lower.
Education level is also a determining factor. People with higher education demonstrate significantly greater mastery of digital skills compared to those with only basic education, highlighting an inequality that requires attention.
Authorities are already considering measures to address these gaps, promoting initiatives that encourage training and technological inclusion, aiming to prepare society for future challenges.
