Brent oil prices surged above 100 dollars per barrel, reflecting the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. The price returned to exceeding the symbolic three-digit threshold in a context of growing instability in the Middle East region.
US forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers, which provoked a strong response from Tehran. In retaliation, Iran launched missiles against Jordan, further aggravating the conflict between the two countries and increasing the risk of a military escalation in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important maritime routes for crude oil transport, has remained practically closed since February. This situation has caused significant disruptions in international oil trade and raised concerns about global energy supply.
The combination of these factors — destruction of oil tankers, missile attacks and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz — has created an environment of high geopolitical tension that has been driving oil prices up worldwide.
