Around two hundred participants gathered on Tuesday, September 8, at the first Health Literacy Meeting of the Local Health Unit of Lezíria (ULS Lezíria). The event took place at the Auditorium of the School of Health Sciences of Santarém (ESSS) and brought together health professionals and partners for a day dedicated to sharing knowledge and best practices in this area.
The meeting, which had the theme "Knowledge that empowers, literacy that transforms", was promoted by ULS Lezíria in partnership with ESSS, belonging to the Polytechnic University of Santarém, and with the Academic Network for Health Literacy. The initiative took place on International Literacy Day.
In the opening session, the president of the Board of Directors of ULS Lezíria, Pedro Marques, highlighted the institution's commitment to this area and the work carried out by a group of 12 professionals responsible for developing the Health Literacy Plan of ULS Lezíria. This plan is currently submitted for review by the Directorate-General for Health.
Pedro Marques argued that a more informed and participatory population in healthcare represents significant benefits for all stakeholders in the health system.
