LG Smart TVs may be listening to us even when turned off. Review your settings!

SAPO Notícias9 September 2026 at 08:58

An investigation conducted by several independent security researchers has called into question LG's claims that its Smart TVs do not record ambient audio without authorization. The research work revealed that the South Korean brand's smart televisions may be capturing and recording sounds even when apparently turned off.

The independent security researchers analyzed the behavior of LG's devices and found evidence that the voice recognition functionality, even when supposedly deactivated, remained active in certain circumstances, raising concerns about user privacy.

LG has always claimed that its televisions only record audio when manually activated by users through specific voice commands. However, the investigation results suggest that the system may continue to operate without the knowledge or explicit consent of the owners.

In light of these findings, experts recommend that users review the settings on their smart TVs and manually disable data collection and voice recognition features to ensure greater privacy in daily device use.
