Oil returns to 100 dollars two months later

Oil returned to hitting 100 dollars, with Brent barrel registering a rise of more than 2%. This milestone occurs approximately two months after the last time the price reached that level.

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to significantly worsen. Iran carried out an attack on a US base in Jordan, in retaliation for an earlier attack by the United States on Iranian oil tankers.

Iran's-backed Houthi rebels from Yemen attacked several Saudi cities, contributing to increased instability in the region and to pressure on oil prices.

Inditex warned that the logistics surcharges resulting from tensions in the Middle East will continue to pressure its gross margin during the second half of the year. The company issued this warning to analysts, after presenting first-half results in which it earned 2,800 million euros (+6.8%) and generated revenue of 19,755 million (+7.6%), explaining that disruptions in the Middle East region raised transportation and procurement costs during the first half of the year, and that, due to the time lag with which these expenses are reflected in the cost of goods sold, part of the impact will continue to be felt in the coming months.

The Portuguese Government announced that it will grant an extraordinary supplement to pensioners with pensions up to €1,611.13 (corresponding to three times the IAS value planned for 2026), to be paid together with the December pension. The measure, with an exceptional character and not incorporated into the monthly pension value, is aimed at beneficiaries with lower incomes, with the amount being higher the lower the pension. The estimated impact on public accounts is around €400 million. The announcement came simultaneously with an IRS reduction with retroactive effects from January 2026, although, unlike this, the pensioner supplementation is one-off. The final criteria and specific amounts have not yet been disclosed, and are expected to be presented during the week of September 12.
