Inditex warned that the logistics surcharges derived from tensions in the Middle East will continue to pressure its gross margin during the second half of the year. The company issued this warning to analysts, after presenting the first-half results.
In the first half, Inditex posted profits of 2,800 million euros, representing growth of 6.8% compared to the same period last year. Sales reached 19,755 million euros, an increase of 7.6%.
The company explained that disruptions in the Middle East region raised transportation and procurement costs during the first half of the year. This increase in costs reflects the disruptions to trade routes caused by the geopolitical situation in the region.
Due to the time lag with which these expenses are passed on to the cost of goods sold, part of the impact will continue to be felt in the coming months. The company noted that the full effect of these cost pressures has not yet been fully reflected in the results.
