Brazil stagnant for a decade, global education setback and even rich countries struggling: learn all about Pisa

Brazil's student learning has stagnated for a decade, according to the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (Pisa) 2025, released on Tuesday. The country remains at a very low level of educational performance. Among 91 nations evaluated, Brazil ranked 71st in Mathematics, 52nd in Reading, 67th in Science and 69th in Computing.

When compared with Latin American countries, Brazil is below Uruguay, which achieved the best performance in the region, as well as Chile and Mexico. The country ranks only above Peru, Argentina and Ecuador in the regional ranking.

Pisa is considered the world's primary education assessment and measures student performance in different areas of knowledge. The 2025 results reinforce the critical situation of Brazilian education, which has been unable to make significant progress for ten years.
