Former and current commanders of the Mirandela Firefighters began standing trial for embezzlement and falsification crimes. The defendants are suspected of having diverted public money through fraudulent schemes related to the payment of firefighting teams.
The issue involves 120,000 euros paid by the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection. The money was intended for financing firefighting teams, but according to the prosecution, some of these teams were fabricated.
Investigations revealed that the defendants created or inflated the existence of teams that did not correspond to reality, thus receiving improper payments. The trial is taking place in court and should clarify all aspects of this alleged fraud scheme.
