Quaest: Tarcísio has 42% and Haddad, 27%, in new poll for São Paulo governor's race

extra8 September 2026 at 22:19

Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos) leads the race for re-election as governor of São Paulo with 42% of voting intentions, according to a new Quaest poll released on Tuesday. Former BNDES president Fernando Haddad (PT) appears in second place with 27%. Compared to the previous poll from August, when Tarcísio had 40 points and Haddad had 27, the governor's lead over the PT candidate increased from 13 to 15 percentage points.

Among the other candidates, Carlos Machado (PCB), Izadora Dias (PCO), and Police Officer Edjane (Agir) each appear with 1%. Vivian Mendes (UP) did not score. Blank, null, and voters who say they will not vote total 13%, while 14% of those surveyed are still undecided.

The poll also presents a runoff simulation, in which Tarcísio de Freitas appears with 48% (up from 47% in the August 25 survey) and Fernando Haddad with 10% (up from 9%). In this scenario, blanks, nulls, or those who say they will not vote represent 4%, while 64% are undecided, a reduction from the previous 66%.

The poll was commissioned by TV... (the information is incomplete in the provided text).

AGU appeals to STF against removal of Andrei Rodrigues ordered by Mendonça

AGU appealed to the STF against the decision by Minister André Mendonça that provisionally removed the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues. The agency argues that the measure causes "serious harm to public and administrative order" and that the selection, appointment, and dismissal of the PF director are exclusive prerogatives of the president of the Republic. AGU also argues that Rodrigues' abrupt departure may compromise the functioning of the institution and generate disorganization in the Federal Police structure, responsible for judicial police activities. Given the urgency, the agency requested an injunction to immediately suspend Rodrigues' removal and that of other executives affected by the decision.
