Air Cairo, Egypt's national airline, signed a firm contract for the acquisition of 15 Airbus A320neo aircraft during the 2026 El Alamein International Aerospace and Space Fair. The agreement represents an important milestone in the company's strategy, which will now operate with its own aircraft, in addition to its leased Airbus fleet, aiming for long-term growth.
Having grown rapidly, from seven aircraft five years ago to a fleet of more than 45 aircraft currently, Air Cairo is taking advantage of this momentum to reach a fleet of more than 130 aircraft by 2034. The contract provides the airline with the capacity, flexibility, and operational efficiency needed to expand connectivity across its domestic, regional, and international networks.
Hussein Sherif, President and CEO of Air Cairo, stated that the agreement represents a natural step in the company's growth. The combination of owned aircraft with the leased fleet provides greater operational flexibility and financial efficiency as they expand operations. The A320neo will offer the capacity needed to expand the network, meet the growing demand for travel to and from Egypt, and support the country's aviation and tourism sectors.
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus's Commercial Aircraft division, stated that this first direct acquisition by Air Cairo reaffirms the airline's confidence in the A320neo to drive its next phase of growth. The executive highlighted that the commitment underscores the strength of the partnership between the two companies and Air Cairo's confidence in the A320neo to expand connectivity between Egypt and major international destinations.
