President Lula met on Tuesday morning (8th) with the attorney general of the Union, Jorge Messias, at the Alvorada Palace. The meeting took place after the minister of the Supreme Federal Court André Mendonça ordered the removal of the Federal Police director-general, Andrei Rodrigues, and the PF's intelligence director, Leandro Almada. The meeting aimed to inform Lula about the arguments that the Attorney General's Office will use to appeal the decision.
The AGU intends to argue that the removal violates the exclusive competence of the president of the Republic, arguing that the selection, appointment, and dismissal of the Federal Police chief is the exclusive competence of the presidency, as established by article 84 of the Federal Constitution. Government sources confirmed this information to CBN.
The STF Second Chamber session was scheduled for the same Tuesday (8th), indicating that Mendonça's decision would be analyzed by the rest of the court. The minister made the decision to remove the two PF directors, which prompted the immediate reaction of the federal government through the AGU.
