The deadline for submitting lists for Israel's legislative elections has ended: an almost-coalition, parties created in hours, and a Jew among Arabs

Expresso8 September 2026 at 20:01

The deadline for submitting lists, registering new parties, or presenting coalitions for Israel's legislative elections scheduled for October 27 ended this Tuesday. The Israeli electoral system is known for its complexity, with almost always more than 30 parties on the ballot and frequent last-minute surprises.

This time, two new political formations, and potentially a third, were created in the last few days. These formations could significantly complicate the counts for the two main aspiring prime ministers.

Among the most surprising developments is the existence of a Jewish candidate integrated into the Arab lists for these elections, which represents an unusual situation in the Israeli political landscape.

The legislative elections of October 27 promise to be particularly unpredictable, with the entry onto the scene of newly-created parties that could alter the balance of power between the country's main political blocks.
