FUNDÃO: Chocalhos – Festival of the Transhumance Paths in Alpedrinha

From September 18 to 20, 2026, the Chocalhos – Festival of the Transhumance Paths will take place in Alpedrinha, in Fundão. The event celebrates the tradition of transhumance, a pastoral practice that involved the seasonal movement of flocks. The festival is fundamentally based on the historical paths that the flocks traveled during the months of the year, specifically between summer in the Serra da Estrela and the journey to the fields of Idanha-a-Nova, at the beginning of each autumn. This initiative aims to preserve and disseminate the intangible heritage linked to traditional shepherding and the ancestral routes of inland Portugal.
