Painter Jorge Barroso inaugurated on September 8 the exhibition "Preto no Branco – Black in White", at the Florbela Espanca Cinema-Theatre Gallery in Vila Viçosa. The exhibition brings together 36 works marked by the almost exclusive use of black and white tones, presenting his work for the first time in this Alentejo municipality.
A native of Rio de Moinhos, Jorge Barroso has dedicated himself to the arts for about 30 years, dividing his journey between painting and writing. He recently launched a book dedicated to the theme of autism. The artist explained that black and white go beyond a simple chromatic choice, serving to create volume, depth and different interpretations through the contrast between light and shadow.
The Vice-President of the Municipal Council of Vila Viçosa, Tiago Salgueiro, was present at the inauguration, highlighting that this is a moment of return to the cultural dynamism of the municipality after the holiday period. Salgueiro valued the fact that Jorge Barroso is a true self-taught artist and praised the combination of painting and sculpture present in the exhibition.
The exhibition can be visited until September 27, from Tuesday to Sunday, between 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM and from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM. The artist defined the exhibition with one word: "depth".
