A 62-year-old man was seriously injured following a run-off of a light passenger vehicle on National Road 2, at kilometre 45, in the municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar. The accident occurred at around 3:10 PM, with the alert triggering a rescue operation involving several entities.
The victim suffered serious injuries and was assisted and stabilized at the scene by emergency teams. Due to the severity of his clinical condition, he was ultimately evacuated by helicopter to Vila Real Hospital, where he remained under specialized medical care.
At the scene were the Volunteer Firefighters of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, with three vehicles and eight operatives, GNR officers, the VMER from Chaves, and the Municipal Civil Protection Service. During the rescue operations, traffic on the N2 was restricted to ensure safety conditions for the emergency responders' intervention.
The circumstances in which the run-off occurred remain unclear. The causes of the accident are being investigated by the competent authorities.
