The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) published on August 31, 2026 the final reports of the PRR RP-C21-i07.01 project – "Technical studies for offshore energy potential". The publication was made available on the website https://owf.ipma.pt/.
The project focused on the geophysical, geotechnical and environmental characterization of an area of 2,000 km². This characterization covered three Portuguese coastal zones: Figueira da Foz, Leixões and Viana do Castelo.
The technical studies carried out under this project aim to contribute to the assessment of Portugal's offshore energy potential. This initiative is part of the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
The availability of these reports now allows access to relevant technical data for the development of offshore wind energy projects in the country.
