Iran announces capture of "intelligent submarine" from the US with "the world's most advanced technology"

CNN Portugal8 September 2026 at 17:26

Iran announced the capture of an "intelligent submarine" from the United States, according to information released by the Mehr news agency. Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy stated that the capture was the result of "a complex intelligence operation".

According to the Mehr agency, the submarine captured by the Iranians contained "the world's most advanced technology". The Revolutionary Guard did not specify when or where the operation occurred.

The Reuters news agency was unable to independently confirm the Iranian claims about the capture of the American military equipment. This is not the first time Iran has claimed to have captured American military equipment in the Gulf region.

Tensions between Iran and the United States remain high, with both countries involved in indirect confrontations in the Middle East region. The Pentagon has not yet officially commented on the Iranian claims.
