Firefighters control a fire in Vilafranca after a lightning strike

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General8 September 2026 at 17:01

The firefighters from the Provincial Consortium of the Castellón Provincial Council and the Generalitat managed to control this Tuesday a vegetation fire in the vicinity of a forested area in Vilafranca, according to official sources. The rapid intervention of the firefighting teams was essential to prevent the fire from spreading to a wider area.

The fire originated, apparently, from a lightning strike. This meteorological factor was the trigger for the blaze in the vegetation area. The authorities reported no injuries or significant material damage thanks to the swift action of the firefighters.

The official sources highlighted that the speed of the emergency teams' response was decisive in controlling the situation, preventing the flames from spreading to the adjacent forested area. The incident occurred in the territory of Vilafranca, belonging to the province of Castellón.
