Fortaleza de Valença reached the final stage of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal, in the category dedicated to castles. The Valencian monument is the only representative from Minho in this last stage of the competition, which distinguishes the seven most notable heritages of the country.
The candidacy process was lengthy and involved several voting stages, in which the fortress competed with other national monuments. After overcoming these preliminary phases, the fortification is now closer to joining the prestigious list of the seven Portuguese wonders.
The Municipal Chamber of Valença has been monitoring and supporting this candidacy throughout the entire process. This achievement brings the district of Viana do Castelo and the Minho region into focus in the national heritage scenario.
