Mira Wind Farm plans 22 wind turbines and 158.4 MW between Odemira and Ourique

Alentrium8 September 2026 at 15:58

A new wind farm project called Mira Wind Farm – Hybridization of the Ourique Solar Power Plant is planned for the municipalities of Odemira and Ourique in the district of Beja. The project involves 22 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 158.4 megawatts, with 18 located in Odemira territory and four in Ourique. The wind turbines will be distributed across four parishes: Luzianes-Gare, São Martinho das Amoreiras, and Santa Clara-a-Velha in the municipality of Odemira, and Santana da Serra in the municipality of Ourique. Each turbine will have capacities between 6.8 and 7.2 MW, towers approximately 114 meters high, blades about 85 meters long, and rotors with a 172-meter diameter.

The project is in a preliminary phase of the environmental assessment procedure under the responsibility of the Portuguese Environment Agency, with no environmental authorization or scope definition yet. The identified proponent is ISDC – International Solar Development. The documentation estimates annual production of 377.94 gigawatt-hours and emission reductions of approximately 8,640 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. The required infrastructure includes road access, a medium-voltage underground electrical network, a 30/150 kV collector substation, and a control building with warehouse.

If it proceeds, the construction period is estimated at 15 months and the operation phase is projected for 25 years. The total investment value is not mentioned in the available public information. The ongoing environmental procedure is intended to define the scope of the future Environmental Impact Study, a prior step to the environmental decision required for the project's development.

The Mira Wind Farm is part of a context of expansion of renewable energy projects in the Alentejo region, where other environmental procedures are underway for initiatives in Sines, Santiago do Cacém, Portel, Vidigueira, Montemor-o-Novo, Vendas Novas, Crato, and Nisa. The hybridization with the Ourique Solar Power Plant allows combining wind production with solar, combining two technologies with distinct electricity generation profiles.

Opinion by Silva Pires: Dacia Spring gains presence

Dacia presented a complete renovation of the Spring, its first 100% electric vehicle, now built on the Twingo platform. The new model lost the fragile appearance of the previous one, gaining presence, dimension, interior space and a more appealing design. However, it maintains the aggressive pricing policy, which should be around 17,500 euros. Specifications include an 80 hp engine, a 27.5 kWh battery and a range of 250 km. The launch is scheduled for the end of the year.

China Automobile Dealers Association and ASFAC Discuss Automobile Credit Cooperation

The Association of Specialized Credit Institutions (ASFAC) met in Lisbon with a delegation from the China Automobile Dealers Association (CADA), which represents approximately 18,000 members in the Chinese automobile sector, to discuss cooperation opportunities in automobile financing, with special focus on new energy vehicles. ASFAC highlighted the relevance of southern Europe as a reference in automobile credit and presented the Portuguese market, whose sector represents more than 75% of credit granted to individuals for financing. However, ASFAC criticized the absence of concrete information on the transposition to Portugal of the new European consumer credit contracts regime, whose deadline ended in November 2025, warning that this uncertainty harms the preparation of institutions and the evaluation of new partnerships. The meeting had the support of the Embassy of China in Portugal and the law firm Broseta.
