Teachers are demanding better conditions to teach and learn after the release of the PISA 2025 results. Portugal appears as one of the countries most affected by the shortage of teachers, which prompted this claim by teachers.
According to PISA 2025 data, only 12.9% of Portuguese students attend schools that do not face teacher shortage problems. This data places Portugal in a concerning position in terms of human resources in the education sector.
The teachers' request comes following the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment, which evaluates student performance in different countries and has been highlighting the difficulties of the Portuguese education system.
