Monte Gordo celebrates its patron saint, Our Lady of Sorrows, with the Festivities in Honor of Our Lady of Sorrows, between September 9 and 15. The program includes music, tradition and faith, with activities ranging from religious celebrations to sports tournaments and concerts.
The festivities begin on the 9th with the celebration of the Eucharist, Candle Procession and a performance by the Musical Band of the Cultural Association of VRSA. In the following days, activities take place such as the "Donkey Game" tournament organized by the Fishermen's Association, Recitation of the Rosary and Eucharist, as well as the Treasure Hunt, the 6th Tournament in Honor of Our Lady of Sorrows and a Veterans Football Tournament.
Sunday, the 13th, is the highlight of the celebrations, with activities such as beach football, the "Greasy Pole Game" and the traditional rowing boat race. At 5pm, the procession takes place with the image of Our Lady of Sorrows to Monte Gordo Beach, followed by a concert by Badoxa at 10pm and DJ Paulo Karussa with 80s and 90s music.
The festivities close on Tuesday, the 15th, with a solemn mass at 7pm. The event is organized by multiple local entities, including the Municipality of VRSA, the Parish Council of Monte Gordo, Grupo Desportivo Os Cuícos, the Parish of Monte Gordo and various local associations.
