The parish of Cabaços, in Ponte de Lima, celebrated from September 18 to 27 another edition of the Festas do Samiguel, with the motto "a feast different from the others". The program spanned two weekends, combining religious celebrations, ethnography, gastronomy, and the return to fieldwork that marks the Minho autumn.
The first weekend focused on corn-related activities. Opening of the exhibition "Francisco: Santo", a sung mass in Latin, and on the 19th the "Departure of Farmers to the Field" for the Corn Cutting. The evening included performances by the Feitosa Popular Music Group and the Poiares House of the People Folklore and Ethnographic Group, followed by the Blessing of the Accordions and the Great Minhota Cornhusking, with a communal dinner of roasted sardines, corn bread, and wine. On Sunday, the 20th, the First Fruits Procession, known as Rematação, took place, along with the Fair of Samiguel with local products, crafts, and traditional flavors.
The second weekend, on the 26th and 27th, focused on the grape harvest. On Saturday, the "Grape Harvest at Passal" took place followed by the Ancient-Style Wine Pressing, with treading and crushing of the grapes. On Sunday, the festivities culminated with the Festive Sunday Eucharist and the Procession of Baskets, before the reopening of the fair.
Between the two weekends, from September 21 to 25, the church and exhibition were open to the public from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
