Detran RJ authorized around 120 autonomous instructors to teach practical driving lessons for first-time license candidates. The professionals can start their activities starting this Tuesday. The list with the names of those authorized was published in the September 2 edition of the Official State Gazette of Rio de Janeiro.
According to the agency, the authorization to work is valid for one year and can be renewed if the professional continues to meet the established requirements. The measure complies with Contran Resolution 1,020/2025 and Detran RJ Ordinance 7,082/2026.
With the change in the system, candidates for a driver's license are no longer required to take practical lessons only at driving schools. Now, they can directly hire an autonomous instructor who is authorized by Detran RJ.
Detran RJ explained that the classes will be recorded in the official system and that, after completing the minimum required hours, the candidate will be eligible to take the practical driving exam.
