The Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, reiterated this Tuesday in Parliament his intention to remain in office, stating he maintains "confidence in myself" and ensuring he has the support of the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro. The hearing before the Committee on Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Freedoms and Guarantees took place in a context of intense political pressure, with the opposition questioning decisions made during his tenure as director of the Judicial Police — including the transfer of an impounded trailer to a company with contracts with the PJ, works on his property in Odemira and omissions in his wealth declarations. Chega directly demanded his resignation, while the PSD closed ranks around the minister and the PS transferred to Montenegro the responsibility of evaluating the political viability of his continuity. Neves refused to put his position at the disposal of the government, acknowledged that there were informal acts, but rejected having acted for his own benefit, for third parties or against the interest of the State.
