The Minister of Internal Administration announced today that the PSP reorganization plan in Lisbon, Porto, and Setúbal will allow 500 police officers to be released to the streets through a reformulation of command structures and the centralization of administrative services.
The measure aims to reinforce community policing in the three main cities of the country, transferring bureaucratic and management tasks to digital platforms and concentrating these functions in central units.
According to the minister, this reorganization does not imply the hiring of new personnel, but rather an optimization of the human resources already existing in the Public Security Police.
The plan comes at a time when the PSP has faced criticism regarding the lack of officers on the streets, particularly in urban areas with higher population density and higher crime rates.
