Wine producers expect more quantity, but also more quality, after an "atypical year" in 2025

Wine producers in Portugal expect an increase in both quantity and quality of production after an "atypical year" in 2025. The Wine and Vine Institute (IVV) estimates that wine production will rise 12% to 6.7 million hectoliters, signaling a significant recovery compared to the previous year.

Producers point to an increase in quality compared to what they consider to have been an atypical year in 2025, suggesting that current conditions allow for more favorable expectations for the harvest.

During the height of the harvest, machines have played an important role in easing the pressure caused by the lack of labor in the sector. However, producers acknowledge that the human factor remains fundamental in the wine production process.
