Italy presented a proposal to exempt merchants from fees on digital payments below €10. The measure aims to boost the use of electronic payments in the country and facilitate low-value transactions.
The idea has the support of the Italian central bank, which recognizes the benefits of promoting greater adoption of digital payment methods among consumers and merchants.
In parallel, final negotiations on the digital euro are underway in Brussels, the European Central Bank's digital currency project that could transform the way Europeans carry out daily transactions.
