The Dutch company Heerema Marine Contractors, specialized in the installation and decommissioning of offshore energy infrastructure, will open a new international engineering center in Porto. This expansion marks the creation of Heerema Portugal, representing a structural and long-term presence of the company in Portuguese territory.
Porto's selection was driven by the prestige of local academic institutions, the dynamism of the technology ecosystem, and access to top-tier professionals and recent graduates. The new hub will integrate the company's global engineering network, operating in coordination with the headquarters in Leiden and offices in London, Houston, and Singapore.
The hub's engineers will contribute to all stages of offshore energy projects, including tender support, conceptual engineering, planning, and installation execution. The main focus areas include offshore wind energy, complex maritime infrastructure, and sustainable decommissioning.
The initial recruitment phase focuses on roles such as project technical managers, installation engineers, structural engineers, technical drafters, and human resources professionals. According to Claudio Gentile, Managing Director of Heerema Porto, this expansion aims to strengthen the company's global engineering capacity to accelerate the energy transition.
