The Portuguese Government concluded the acquisition of 13.7% of REN's capital (Redes Energéticas Nacionais), marking the State's return to the company's capital. This operation represents a reinforcement of the State's presence in a sector considered strategic for the country.
REN is a company considered strategic for Portugal, operating in the energy networks sector. The State's participation in this company reflects the importance that the energy sector has for the national economy and for the country's energy security.
With this acquisition, there is also the total exit of Pontegadea, a company belonging to the founder of Inditex, Amancio Ortega, from REN. This transaction marks the end of Ortega's group presence in the capital of the Portuguese energy company.
