On Monday morning, divers from MARDIVE – Association Science and Education for Marine Biodiversity Conservation went to Trafaria bay, in Almada, to monitor the new shelters created for seahorses in the Tagus waters. The team proceeded with the verification of the artificial structures installed in this location.
Nine shopping carts were placed in the Tagus waters, near Trafaria bay, and transformed into artificial shelters for a significant population of seahorses. The installation was carried out in three distinct zones of the bay, with three structures at each location, totaling nine shelters.
This intervention is part of D-Evolution, a national ecological restoration initiative promoted by WWF Portugal. The project aims to contribute to the recovery of degraded marine ecosystems, using innovative and low-cost solutions to create artificial habitats that support local biodiversity.
