The bishop of La Guaira, in Venezuela, Mgr. Pablo Modesto González Pérez, presided over the Confirmation of 62 young people outdoors in the town of Tarmas, guaranteeing the diocese's continued support to the populations affected by the recent earthquakes. The prelate declared that the diocese "remains firm, active, and close to its people" and that "no obstacle will extinguish the mission" of the Church.
The historic church of Tarmas completely lost its roof due to the "double earthquake of June 24," forcing communities to hold liturgical celebrations in the streets. Mgr. Pablo Modesto González Pérez addressed the victims directly, stating: "To every person, every family that today is going through difficulties and moments of uncertainty, I want to tell you from the bottom of my heart: you are not alone."
The local pastor, Father Daniel Acosta, explained that, despite the difficult circumstances and intense sun, the young people and their families came together in an environment of prayer, joy, and hope. The priest also revealed the human need for pastoral support in the face of the loss of loved ones, jobs, and homes, confessing that, after daily service, "when night comes, the heart shrinks and, since we are human, tears flow."
The Aid to the Church in Need Foundation (ACN) confirmed that it sent emergency aid to sustain the work of the dioceses of La Guaira and Caracas, having completed a trip to Venezuela to approve new support for the recovery of damaged church structures.
