Corn Festival celebrates Brazilian culture on the riverside area of Portimão

The 10th edition of the Corn Festival takes place from September 11 to 13 on the riverside area of Portimão, celebrating Brazilian tradition and identity. The event runs on Friday and Saturday from 4pm to 1am, and on Sunday from 2pm to 11pm. Visitors will find acarajé and specialties from Bahia, dishes from Pará and Goiás, jantinha, pastel, sugarcane juice, sweets, pies, burgers, caipirinha and corn-based recipes.

The musical programme includes, on Friday, Los Pisadinhas and Alê Borges; on Saturday, Misael Araújo, Vânia Souza and DJ Têaga; and on Sunday, a samba circle, the group "Melhor Eu Ir" and Pagode do Sandrin.

The event was created on the initiative of Michelle, the founder who prepared traditional Brazilian corn-based delicacies such as pamonha, curau and boiled corn, thus creating a tribute to the gastronomy of her country.

The Corn Festival is organized by PEM – Pontes Entre Mundos, a Luso-Brazilian association, with support from the Municipality and Parish Council of Portimão and Algarve Tourism.

The voices are tuned for the Feiras Novas

The users of Lar Santa Maria do Lima, in Ponte de Lima, rehearsed traditional songs to the sound of Mickael Akordeon's concertina for the Feiras Novas, the largest pilgrimage in the municipality. The musician launched the challenge of "going to São João d'Arga to fetch bagaço with honey to tune the voice", and the rehearsal ended with the song "Feiras Novas" by Augusto Canário. Cargaleiro Museum Brings Together the 20 Finalist Artists of the 1st Edition of the Manuel Cargaleiro Awards

The Manuel Cargaleiro Foundation inaugurates on September 18, at the Cargaleiro Museum in Castelo Branco, the exhibition that brings together the 20 finalist artists of the 1st edition of the Manuel Cargaleiro Awards, selected from 267 national and international applications. The exhibition, spread across two floors, presents ten competitors for the Revelation Award (for higher art education students) and ten for the Cargaleiro Award (for artists with no age or career restrictions). The winner of the Cargaleiro Award receives 5,000 euros, while the Revelation Award guarantees full funding of the study cycle for the first place. The winners will be announced in October at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. The inaugural ceremony, with free admission, also celebrates the museum's 21st anniversary.
