The Manuel Cargaleiro Foundation presents at the Cargaleiro Museum, in Castelo Branco, on September 18 at 6:00 PM, the exhibition that brings together the 20 artists selected as finalists of the 1st edition of the Manuel Cargaleiro Awards. From among 267 applications received from across the country and abroad, 20 works were chosen that will be on display distributed across two floors of the museum, marking the first time these works are presented together.
The competition is divided into two categories with ten finalists each. The Revelation Award is intended for higher art education students and features Ana Alves, Giulia Paz, Mónica Lopes Nogueira, Pedro de Sousa Serafim, Raquel Maria Tavares, Rui Dias Monteiro, Sara Gonçalves, Sara Velez Malta, Sílvia Neto, and Tomás Caleia Azul. The Cargaleiro Award is open to artists with no age or career restrictions and includes Ana Maria Ferreira, António Jorge, Célia Macedo, Joana Paraíso, Luís Macedo, Luís Mouro, Luísa Ramires, Magda Delgado, Rosário Andrade, and Yola Vale.
The winner of the Cargaleiro Award is granted 5,000 euros. As for the Revelation Award, the winner receives full funding for their current study cycle, with the academic year also secured for the second and third-place finishers. The winners will be announced in October, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
The awards are promoted by the Manuel Cargaleiro Foundation in partnership with the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and the Municipality of Castelo Branco, with exclusive sponsorship from Caixa de Crédito Agrícola da Beira Baixa Sul. The initiative is part of the Centenary Celebrations of Master Manuel Cargaleiro, born in 1927. The inaugural session features representatives from the involved entities and includes a guided visit to the exhibition with curator Gonçalo Garcia Magano and the finalist artists, as well as a reception marking the 21st anniversary of the Cargaleiro Museum.
