The Bojador winery is a personal project of award-winning winemaker Pedro Ribeiro, located in the Vidigueira region, in Alentejo. The winery's proposal is to reveal the contemporary face of Alentejo, while maintaining its essence.
During a visit to Rio de Janeiro, Ribeiro explained that Vidigueira is recognized for the great white wines of the region. According to him, in Alentejo everyone recognizes that quality white wine must come from Vidigueira, due to the freshness and minerality present in these wines, characteristics that are not found in other parts of Alentejo.
The winemaker points to two main reasons for this particularity. The first is related to the soils: while most of Alentejo has clay soils, Vidigueira has granite soils, which directly influences the characteristics of the wines.
The second reason is linked to geography and winds. Portugal has an approximately rectangular shape, with Spain on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. The Atlantic winds cross the entire Alentejo plain and are blocked in Vidigueira by the Serra do Mendro, contributing to the unique conditions that define the wines of the region.
