The Alqueva Development and Infrastructure Company (EDIA) announced the launch of its educational program for the 2026/2027 school year, with a total of 35 activities integrated in the "Alqueva goes to School" project. The initiative aims to make students and teachers aware of the transformations that the Alqueva project has brought to the region, as well as its relevance in the management of natural resources and territorial development.
The activities are developed by different areas of EDIA and cover topics such as water management, agriculture, spatial planning, renewable energy, environment, cultural heritage and tourism. The experiences are aimed at different educational levels and combine classroom sessions with visits and field exploration.
Students can visit the Alqueva Center, next to the dam, where they have interactive content and real models on water storage and distribution, the Museum of Light in Mourão to explore the history of the new village and submerged heritage, and the Noudar Nature Park in Barrancos for learning about nature conservation, biodiversity and sustainable landscape management.
The official presentation of the new educational offering is scheduled for September 10, at 10:30 AM, at the Alqueva Center, in a session aimed at teachers from school clusters and professional schools in the region. With this project, EDIA reinforces its connection to the educational community, bringing the curricular contents closer to the reality of the Alqueva development.
