Alpiarça hosts free skin and oral cavity cancer screening on September 26

The Alpiarça Health Center will host, on September 26, a free cancer screening action for skin and oral cavity cancer. The initiative takes place during one day and aims to offer the population the possibility of undergoing preventive examinations at no cost. The action is promoted by the Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro – Núcleo Regional do Sul, with the support of the Municipality of Alpiarça and USF Alpiarça. The screening aims to strengthen prevention and early diagnosis of these oncological pathologies in the local community.

80 scientists will discuss the challenges of cells in health and biotechnology

About 80 national and international scientists will meet from September 12 to 16 at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea Nadir Afonso (Nadir Afonso Museum of Contemporary Art), in Chaves, for the 41st SMYTE (Small Meeting on Yeast Transport and Energetics), organized by the Universities of Minho and Lisbon. The event, in partnership with the municipality of Chaves, will debate for five days fundamental questions of cell biology, including cell transport, bioenergetics, metabolism, membranes, signaling, diseases and biotechnology. With about fifty invited speakers and an interactive format, the meeting aims to promote international collaborations and bring together young researchers with world-renowned scientists from institutions such as the universities of Dundee, Yale, Athens and Vienna.
