PISA. After "unprecedented decline" in 2022, OECD students continue to worsen in Science, Mathematics and Reading

CNN Portugal8 September 2026 at 10:26

The results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 confirm an unprecedented decline in the performance of students from OECD countries in the areas of Science, Mathematics and Reading, and this deterioration trend continues to persist. The data shows that students with poor performance in the three areas lack the fundamental skills needed to succeed in higher education, the labour market and everyday life. The warning was issued by the OECD Secretary-General, underscoring the gravity of the educational situation at the international level. This analysis comes following the PISA 2022 results, which had already revealed a significant retreat in student literacy and numeracy indicators.
