Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were reportedly surprised to discover that the Royal Household had sent a letter officially reaffirming that they remain non-working members of the British Royal Family. According to a spokesperson for the couple, Harry and Meghan "were a bit surprised not to have been informed about this in advance."

However, sources close to the royalty present a different version and state that Harry's team was informed about the document's existence before its public release, contradicting the couple's claim.

The correspondence was sent on behalf of the king by the Lord Chamberlain, one of Buckingham Palace's senior officials. The objective was to formally define Harry and Meghan's status after they returned from California to the Kingdom.
