The federal government sent to the National Congress, last week, the 2027 budget proposal, which provides for the reservation of R$ 1.6 billion to expand the annual revenue limit for the Individual Microentrepreneur (MEI). The amount is specifically intended to enable more workers to be classified as MEI.
The measure, however, faces an obstacle. The bill that deals with expanding the MEI revenue ceiling is stalled in the Chamber of Deputies, with no progress in the legislative process.
The MEI is a category that allows the formalization of small businesses with simplified taxation and contribution rules. Expanding the revenue limit would benefit entrepreneurs who currently exceed the maximum amount established to qualify for this modality.
