Robbers stole paintings valued at nine million euros from the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, near Cannes, during the early morning. The heist resulted in the theft of four paintings from the museum's collection.
The thieves managed to escape with the artworks, but ended up abandoning one of the paintings during their flight. The authorities are still investigating the case and attempting to recover the remaining stolen pieces.
The mayor of Cagnes-sur-Mer publicly advocated for the urgent need to reinforce security in museums following this robbery. The official stressed that incidents of this nature highlight the existing vulnerabilities in the protection of cultural spaces.
