Trump threatens to block sales of Canadian Bombardier in the United States

Jornal Económico8 September 2026 at 09:45

Trump threatened to block the sales of Canadian Bombardier in the United States through the social network Truth Social, stating it was time to "stop selling Bombardier in the United States". The North American president also questioned the quality of the Canadian manufacturer's products, considering that "they are not good enough".

In the same post, Trump argued that Bombardier greatly benefits from the United States market, using buyers, companies, airports and North American services. "If they want our market, they have to produce here and stop treating America as a 'cash cow'", he wrote.

This offensive against the Canadian company comes in a context of growing trade tension between Washington and Ottawa and it is not the first time Trump has taken measures against Bombardier.

In January, the North American president had already threatened to impose a 50% tariff on the company's aircraft sold in the United States, in addition to questioning the certification of its planes. At the time, Trump justified the position with what he described as Canada's refusal to certify certain Gulfstream aircraft manufactured in the United States.
