The new season of the Teatro Municipal da Covilhã (TMC) begins next Saturday, the 12th, at 9:30 PM, with the dance performance "A Luminosa Violência da Perfeição" (The Luminous Violence of Perfection), created by Portuguese choreographer, performer, and visual artist Daniel Matos. This piece is inspired by Maurice Ravel's "Pavane for a Dead Infanta" and weaves choreographic movement with Joana Guerra's music, resulting from a co-production of the TMC with Teatro das Figuras, Cine-Teatro de Torres Vedras, and the Municipality of Lagos.
On stage, six dancers and a children's basketball team build a choreographic procession where slowness and intensity coexist. Five children from Covilhã, aged 8 to 10 and dance students at the Conservatório, make up the varied and talented cast of this show, which results in a dance of melancholic character that reflects on the postponement of the end of youth and on what is still yet to be lived.
Daniel Matos, born in 1995 in Lagos, develops his work through multidisciplinary practices where he explores the body as a biographical field, assuming the present as a space of politics and transgression, ritual and affection. The show is recommended for audiences over 16 years old, has a duration of one hour, and tickets cost six euros for the general public and 4.5 euros for those over 60, under 30, students, and arts professionals.
