After definitive land transfer, drainage works at Caio Martins stadium in Niterói should begin this year

An area of 25,000 square meters at Caio Martins Stadium in Icaraí has been definitively ceded to the municipality for the construction of an underground reservoir to combat flooding and, subsequently, a public park. The space, which corresponds to the soccer field, stands, and locker rooms, officially transferred to municipal management last Wednesday (2), after more than a decade of negotiations between the city and state governments.

The cession was formalized during a meeting at Guanabara Palace, with the signing of Mayor Rodrigo Neves and acting Governor, engineer Ricardo Couto de Castro. The main objective of the project is the construction of the underground reservoir to combat flooding in the Icaraí region.

Negotiations regarding the future of Caio Martins date back to 2011, when Jorge Roberto Silveira was mayor and Sérgio Cabral was governor. For more than ten years, the city and state governments negotiated the stadium's future.

Drainage works are expected to begin this year. The soccer field, stands, and locker rooms will be replaced by an underground reservoir and, in the future, transformed into a public park for the population.
