Harry and Meghan have returned to the United Kingdom, but this visit does not represent an institutional rapprochement with the British monarchy. The couple, who have lived in the United States since 2020, maintained their status as non-active members of the royal family throughout their stay in the country.
A letter published on behalf of King Charles III formally clarified that the couple maintains the status of non-active members and will not resume official duties. This communication arose to dispel any expectation that the visit could mean a formal reconciliation with the monarchic institution.
The Sussex couple had abandoned their royal duties in 2020, when they decided to step away from their royal duties and establish themselves in North America. Since then, the relationship between Harry and Meghan and the British royal family has been marked by tensions and estrangement.
