Union warns that hospitals are forcing doctors to perform administrative tasks

The Northern Doctors' Union (SMN) warned that several public hospitals are forcing doctors to perform administrative tasks of coding diagnoses for funding purposes. This practice is taking away time from doctors that should be dedicated to treating patients.

The situation occurs in a context where the National Health Service faces a shortage of doctors, with patients waiting hours in emergency rooms and months for consultations and surgeries. The SMN considers that the transfer of administrative tasks to clinicians further increases the pressure on healthcare professionals.

The union warned that this situation compromises the quality of care provided to patients and the professional quality of life of doctors, who already face high workloads. The warning comes at a time when the NHS is going through serious operational difficulties.
