Portuguese students worsen results

dnoticias.pt8 September 2026 at 08:56

Portuguese students achieved the worst ever results in the Reading test of the PISA program, worsening a declining trend that already represents more than a year of schooling lost. This is the main alert of the new edition of the Programme for International Student Assessment, the largest international educational assessment study.

The study was coordinated by the OECD and involved more than 760 thousand students from 91 countries and economies. The data released today reveal bad news for Portugal regarding the academic performance of its students.

The Reading test was one of the areas assessed in this edition of the program. The results achieved by Portuguese students reflect a progressive deterioration that concerns education experts.
